The first step in taking astrophotographs is connecting your camera to the telescope.
I have a Celestron Nexstar Evolution C6 and a Canon D60a. The telescope has a 2-inch connection at the bottom of the optical tube at prime focus. The connections between this aperture and camera is with two pieces, both available on Amazon.
The first piece is what connects to the base of the telescope. This is the one I use for my C6. It also works for a C8 and larger. I use this same adapter on the Meade LX200 at the UCAO.
The second piece is the T-body ring that has the bayonet connection to connect to the camera body. Its other end screws into the threads on the right side of the T-adapter shown in the figure above.
This piece is custom for each camera company. It fits all the Canon EOS cameras. A different one is needed for a Nikon camera.
The combination of these two pieces means the camera can be securely attached to prime focus of a telescope.
I have seen some adapters that have a 1 ¼ inch tube on the end so it slips into the eyepiece socket. I do not recommend these adapters. The weight of the camera handing off the narrow tube, often connected to a 90 degree diagonal seems like way too much stress to be putting on these parts. Murphy’s Law suggests that at the worst possible time, a screw might be come looses by the changing stresses and the camera will slip off.
Using this T-body adapter works great for my telescope.
